SCS Launches Au Pair Enrichment Program

The Office of Community and Professional Education (OCPE) has launched a new Au Pair Enrichment Program. The program provides a fun yet educational way for Au Pairs to practice and increase their English speaking skills, comprehension of the English language, grammar and vocabulary. Professors Fisher and Taylor Publish Article

Professors Porcher L. Taylor III and Catherine S. Fisher recently co-wrote, with Michael J. Caslin III, an article titled “Perspectives: Entrepreneurship Training Can Empower Students Being Left Behind.” The article appears in the October 18, 2007, issue of Diverse Issues in Higher Education. Taylor is chair of the Paralegal Studies program at the School, and Fisher is chair of the Teacher Licensure Program (TLP) at the University.

Think Again Catalog Receives Award

Think Again CatalogThe Fall 2007 Think Again catalog has been selected as a first place winner in the category of Brochure Design in the 2008 International Learning Resource Network (LERN) Awards. According to the award notification letter, “judging was more competitive this year than in any previous competitions, so you are to be doubly congratulated on your achievement.” The Think Again catalog is a collaborative effort of the Office of Community and Professional Education (OCPE) and the Marketing Department in the School of Continuing Studies. SCS Book Fair Nov. 10-11

The Fall 2007 SCS Book Fair will be held November 10-11 at Borders Books and Music at 9750 W. Broad Street in Glen Allen. SGA Provides 3-Day Pass to Recreation Center

The SCS Student Government Association (SGA) is providing a free three-day pass for part-time, degree seeking SCS students to visit the Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness October 19-21. This state-of-the-art facility boasts the latest fitness equipment as well as an indoor track and pool. The Center’s hours for the weekend are as follows:

  • Friday, October 19: 6 a.m. - midnight
  • Saturday & Sunday, October 20-21: 10 a.m. - midnight

During the pass period, students can register to win a free one-year membership, a $350 value. Present your UR ID card at the front desk to register. You do not have to be present to win.

If you have not obtained your UR ID card, please visit the One-Card Services in room 330 of the Tyler Haynes Commons between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to receive your card.�

SCS Receives $1M Osher Foundation Grant

The Bernard Osher Foundation has given a $1 million grant to endow the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Richmond School of Continuing Studies, plus $50,000 to support its operating expenses until earnings from the endowment become available. Dean Narduzzi Publishes Article

Dr. James L. Narduzzi, Dean of the School of Continuing Studies, recently had an article published in the Fall 2007 issue of Continuing Higher Education Review. The article is titled “Fear and Loathing on the (Capital) Campaign Trail.”
