Staff Members Receive Service Awards

March 31, 2008

At the University of Richmond Service Awards celebration on March 27, three School of Continuing Studies staff members were recognized for their service to the School and the University. Denard Hall, Operations Coordinator and Kay Robertson, Administrative Assistant to the Deans each received 5-Year Service Awards, while Mary Ewing, Administrative Assistant to the Teacher Licensure Program received the 10-Year Service Award.

Student Vote 2008: Mar. 26-Apr. 4

Currently enrolled Evening School students are invited to vote on two ballots March 26-April 4. Students will cast votes for the student recipient of the Jean H. Proffitt Student Service Award and the faculty recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award. Cast your votes between 12:01 a.m. on March 26 and 11:50 p.m. on April 4. SCS Faculty and Staff to Present in Philly

March 21, 2008

Professor Dan Roberts, Program Chair of Liberal Arts; Associate Dean Ned Swartz; Director Janet Laughlin of the Danville Community College Student Success Center; and Site Coordinator Stephanie Ferrugia of the Danville Community College Weekend College program, will make a presentation titled “Opportunity for Success: The Ultimate Public/Private Partnership” at the 88th Annual Convention of the American Association for Community Colleges in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Professor Strait to Present Paper in Spain

Professor Patricia Strait, Program Chair of the Human Resource Management program, will present a paper titled “Tierra de Sueños: Toward a More Humane Immigration Model” at the 15th International Symposium on Ethics, Business and Society in Barcelona, Spain. 2008 Chocolate Festival Tickets on Sale

Tickets for the 2008 Chocolate Festival are now on sale. The Festival will be held Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the University of Richmond Robins Center. The Festival is presented by the Virginia Chef’s Association to benefit the Chef Otto Bernet Memorial Scholarship Fund. Professor Smith is 2008 Brodie Herndon Poet

Professor Ron Smith, English professor in the Liberal Arts program, will give the Brodie Herndon Reading for 2008 on Friday, April 4, 2008, in the Special Collections Room at the Richmond Public Library at 7:00 p.m. Professor Smith is the author of Running Again in Hollywood Cemetery and Moon Road: Poems 1986-2005. His poems have appeared in several periodicals and anthologies. Previous Brodie Herndon honorees include Pulitzer Prize winners Richard Eberhartt, Henry Taylor, and Claudie Emerson.

Deans Narduzzi and Kitchen Promoted

Dean James Narduzzi and Associate Dean David Kitchen both received academic promotions recently. Narduzzi was promoted to full professor, while Kitchen was promoted to associate professor.

Since Deans Narduzzi and Kitchen carry academic titles (faculty rank) in addition to their administrative titles, they are eligible for promotion within faculty promotion guidelines. Dean Narduzzi is the first full-time School of Continuing Studies employee to earn the academic rank of full professor.
