2007 alumnus enjoys a banner year in 2008

2008 was a banner year for David Weaver, SCS ‘07. He finished his first year as an 8th grade Civics and Economics teacher at Chickahominy Middle School and was named Hanover County’s Beginning Teacher of the Year. But he wasn’t your typical first year teacher. After all, David was almost 52 and a 25-year veteran of the architectural design industry. Joanita Senoga, C’06, is featured in an article titled “Best & Brightest: African Teacher Excels as Student, Role Model in U.S.” on the Diverse Issues in Education Website. The feature tells Senoga’s compelling story of working as a teacher in her native Uganda, of fleeing Uganda to escape an unwanted forced marriage, of being reunited with her daughters here in the U.S., and of taking several jobs to earn her degree at the University of Richmond.
