Professors Hiller and Strait Receive PETE Grant

Professor George Hiller, Adjunct Professor in the HRM program, and Professor Patricia Strait, Chair of the HRM program, received a grant from the University’s PETE (Program for Enhancing Teaching Effectiveness) to create study abroad programs for adult students. Study abroad opportunities are tentatively slated to be launched in Spring 2009.

Dean Brown Honored by Michigan 4-H

April 11, 2008

Dr. Patricia Johnson Brown, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs, will be inducted as a member of the 2008 class of the Michigan 4-H Emerald Clover Society on June 19, 2008. The society recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of Michigan 4-H alumni. As a nominee, Dean Brown has been selected to receive this honor based on Michigan 4-H youth membership, professional and business achievement, leadership in community service and philanthropy, contributions to or impact on American society and her significant leadership and achievement as a 4-H member.

SCS Night & Commencement Schedule

April 3, 2008

SCS Night takes place on Wednesday, May 7, at 5:30 p.m. in the Modlin Center for the Arts. The event honors graduating seniors and faculty of the Evening School. Attendance is by invitation; responses are required by April 30. SCS Commencement takes place Saturday, May 10, at 9:00 a.m. in the Robins Center. Graduates must arrive with their cap and gown no later than 7:30 a.m. Graduates who need to pick up their cap and gown the day of the ceremony must arrive at 7:00 a.m.

Staff Members Receive Service Awards

At the University of Richmond Service Awards celebration on March 27, three School of Continuing Studies staff members were recognized for their service to the School and the University. Denard Hall, Operations Coordinator and Kay Robertson, Administrative Assistant to the Deans each received 5-Year Service Awards, while Mary Ewing, Administrative Assistant to the Teacher Licensure Program received the 10-Year Service Award.

SCS Faculty and Staff to Present in Philly

Professor Dan Roberts, Program Chair of Liberal Arts; Associate Dean Ned Swartz; Director Janet Laughlin of the Danville Community College Student Success Center; and Site Coordinator Stephanie Ferrugia of the Danville Community College Weekend College program, will make a presentation titled “Opportunity for Success: The Ultimate Public/Private Partnership” at the 88th Annual Convention of the American Association for Community Colleges in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
